Sketches from Cycle City on exhibition in Gallery Hest, Ljubljana, August 2016:
In the figural sketches or paintings I am not searching for perfect line or aesthetic form, I just want to be more directly in the painted line and also to let mistakes into my work.
At first I was painting the sketches just to improve my own abilities, so I would be able to paint some of them later on bigger canvas. They are a part of painting process and thinking.
Through years 2010-2014 I primarily created sketches of figural motifs, which with time, group into different cycles: Cycle Two, Cycle Figures, Cycle Dialogues and themes like: themes about relations, different phases of life, time and changes, themes of gender, body constitution, human work, functions and activity, critique of society and groups, like in The Cycle Petty Bourgeois. There are also sketches relating to some visited places, some of them have literature source: like sketches from Iliad and others.
In the year 2014 I am interesting in making sketches (made from memory) like notes of daily life; of people different jobs and places, of dialogues between people, about process of living, generations, urban places and spaces like squares, market places, streets, stations and so on.
Cityscape / City and People / Places, Structures and Architecture
In 2010, I started a series of paintings – sketches on the theme of places, structures and path
all conected with people, human.
First I was mainly interested in the constitution of the city, the core of the dialogue and the meeting space between people.
In the sketches of Ljubljana I work on memory perception. I also want to move away from what I already known or what I think that I know.
I am also interested in drawings beat of the city, old and new in the city, permeation old structures with newer, I am interested in the movement of people, markets, city points, routes…
From Interview – Art Habens: https://issuu.com/arthabens/docs/art_habens_art_review_-_special_edi
The works I created in the Cycle City were made on the basis of drafts, sketches, with the help of photographic material and the crucial is my optical process of memorizing: for the recognition of shapes, the constitution of space, objects.
Even the city houses and street or market is difficult to keep in mind: there is too much informations, so the basic premises were still sketches, photographs.
But again, what capture memory through a simplified perception brings vividness of the image or preserve time moments or records of the time; like a city at summer night, when people seat on a thousand of chairs and you can hear a sound of talking,…; something, that the photos or sketches can’t keep, something that reflects the vitality of the moment or experience.
Sketches from Cycle City from 2014 – 2017 are mostly from the City of Ljubljana / Slovenia.
